Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of football scholarships for his family as well as service in the local community. In the first place the Selmons were brought up by Lucious Semon and his wife Jessie on an agricultural property near Eufala in Oklahoma as the youngest of the nine children they had. The Selmons were also among the three siblings that represented Oklahoma on the field of football. All three brothers were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards and Lombardi Awards. He was one of the top linemen in across the country. Lee Roy won two championships, and 31-1-1 during his three years as Oklahoma's main man. A third scholarship saw him named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon obtained a degree as an educator. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service consisted of ten hours a week of volunteer time in the college. Following graduation, Lee Roy settled in Tampa where he spent nine years playing for Tampa's Buccaneers. 3 times, he was selected All-Pro. Lee Roy began his professional career. The year 1988 was the first time he worked as an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. This is why the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as one of the top 10 young men across the nation. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 6-2. While he was in college, he commanded the 1975 team. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as an assistant director of sports. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
